We discovered syzygy when we were exploring the stars, planets and the universe with our children. We were learning what transpires during an eclipse, and in particular, the lesser celebrated lunar eclipse. When we came across syzygy, we were intrigued with its spelling and pronunciation. However, what it meant resonated with us even more.
During a lunar eclipse, the sun, earth and moon are all in perfect alignment. The earth casts its shadow on the moon for the briefest of moments. But, it is in those moments when we see the moon — we see it like never before. The warm, soft light that is cast upon it allows us to see the fullness of its depth and the detail of its surface. A lunar eclipse is only experienced in the dead of night, when all is still around you. When you are free from daily distractions. When you are at peace. Syzygy doesn’t happen often, but when it does, you never forget the experience.
Here at Studio Savage, we were enamored with the idea of syzygy. Three entities aligned in perfect harmony to produce a visual phenomenon. We liken it to the relationship we have with our clients and an understanding of their audience.
We strive to immerse ourselves in our clients’ culture and mission, just as the earth is immersed fully in the sun’s light. We soak up all that we can so we can cultivate a brand that is appropriate, accurate and relevant.
Understanding who our clients are and who they want to be allows us to then turn our attention to their audience — to see them as clearly as our clients do. Having such a perspective enables us to craft honest and emotive design solutions. Sometimes it is what the client is seeking, but often times the outcomes are unexpected and far exceed expectations.
While we aren’t celestial, we do desire to be in syzygy with our clients and their clients. If it sounds alluring, give us a call. If not, then at least you learned a new word today.
By the way, it’s pronounced “siz-i-jee”.
